Sibyls Windermere Weekend - 16-18th May 2014

“Transfaith: An exploration of gender
in the Church from the Margins”

We are delighted to announce that the Revd Chris Dowd will lead this weekend by sharing insights from his research project into Trans people's spirituality. Chris, formerly an MCC minister in Birmingham is training as a URC minister at Westminster College, Cambridge.

His research into trans people's spirituality, supervised by Birmingham theologian & poet, Nicola Slee, is based on extensive interviews and thorough literature research.
Chris will facilitate three sessions (one on Friday night and two on Saturday morning) and he will celebrate the Eucharist for us on Sunday.

Session 1: An overview of the project.

This session will give a brief summary of the “how and why” of the project. It will give a summary of the main findings and talk a little about other literature available about Transfolk and spirituality.

Session 2: Pastoral care considerations.

The project came up with a series of pastoral care recommendations for transfolk and their loved ones. This session will look at these and explore what they might mean in a local church setting.

Session 3: Looking for Transcestors in the Bible.

This session will explore the positives and negatives of claiming eunuchs as biblical Transcestors (trans ancestors). The session will also look at the Patriarch Job and explore how he may also be a Transcestor.

Our usual walking and sightseeing time on Saturday afternoon, and evening  entertainment will compliment the event

Sibyls together on Sunday morning will include updates about the Pilling Report on human sexuality and the proposed and recommended Facilitated Conversations. We will also discuss the Sibyls relaunch and future activities.

Chris's presentations will provide a really fascinating weekend and we look forward to welcoming you all there.
